Multidisciplinary Artist

Ilias Walchshofer is an Austrian-Moroccan artist based in Paris, recognized for his multidisciplinary practice spanning fine-line illustration, painting, photography, animation and film.

His artistic practice began to take shape in 2014, when he started publishing his works anonymously on online platforms, particularly Tumblr, under the pseudonym Dr.Propolus, a nickname given to him during his teenage years. His early works were signed with Pipihendl, a robotic rooster character created during his youth that frequently appeared throughout his drawings and visual experiments and remains part of the visual vocabulary carried into his practice today. Under the alias Dr.Propolus, Ilias developed sketches and visual experiments using found footage and vintage magazines that would later contribute to his distinctive aesthetic. This period of anonymity allowed him to develop and share his work independently during his early years. Over time, the pseudonym and signature were gradually abandoned, with his work beginning to be published and exhibited under his own name, Ilias Walchshofer.

Within his practice, Ilias creates layered narratives that merge traditional techniques with contemporary visual storytelling. His distinctive style is characterized by intricate detail and narrative depth, often balancing a poetic sensibility with a touch of wit, where reality and surrealism coexist.

His signature aesthetic originated in fine-line illustrations, initially created in black or white, and gradually evolved towards more expressive and colorful linework alongside a range of traditional techniques, including acrylic, crayon and oil painting.

His mixed-media practice explores the interplay between imagery and illustration, as well as illustration as a medium in its own right. His work has been presented in international exhibitions and commissioned for campaigns and creative projects across fashion, culture and design, with a creative reach extending from film and animation to window installations, packaging and textile design.

Since 2025, his practice has also expanded into limited-edition prints, interior objects, textile works and blankets, further exploring the relationship between illustration, collectible art and living space.

Collaborations include Louis Vuitton, Dior, Ami Paris, H&M, Birkenstock, Charles Heidsieck, Chevrolet, Numéro Art and Harper's Bazaar.
